iPad Touch Email

Email composition like the iPhone. Maybe the header would span across the full width of the device, but I thought that making it narrower would make it easier to hit the buttons when you're done typing...

Maybe have the header background extend all the way to the sides, but keep the buttons in the same place? It seems rough.

Keyboard looks great though, just the right size.

What about some level of transparency around the keyboard and composition area, so you can see a previous email or web page, etc.

you have the space to make it a full 101 key keyboard perhaps. i would get a numpad and some symbol keys in there.

In my original design, I used the size of the Apple Wireless Keyboard to drive the proportions... Since I personally use the extended USB version of that keyboard I thought it might make sense to offer all the keys as well... but then I thought... well, maybe Apple's on to something with their limited keyboards.

Maybe I'll flesh out this mockup with a full keyboard. It just seemed like the other keys could be less useful the more you can touch and see variant characters, etc (i.e. click and hold on the "e" to see accented versions, etc).

And I should add that the big benefit of this wider size is that you get to use all your fingers to type!
