US Parkway series, # 52- industrial park, east of Reno, Nevada - February 18, 2012
9 miles east of Reno on I-80, on the US Parkway off-ramp, is a huge,
spread-out industrial complex, promoted as "the largest
industrial center in the world". It is one of those uniquely
northern Nevada visual paradoxes...a serenely beautiful desert
landscape spotted with (mostly) uninhabited industrial buildings,
machines, and assorted outcroppings.
This environment is, for me, quite surreal...and was particularly so on the overcast and chilly Saturday during President's Day weekend when I took this series of photos. Barren. Quiet. Little activity. Bathed in Nevada winter light. I spent the better part of the day in an attempt to capture this desolate atmosphere, and will be posting a number of photos from the US Parkway series in the days ahead.
