Tidal

Tidal by Auzigog.
Auzigog.com

Went to the coast for the weekend with some friends from Corvallis. I had an amazing time. While they were surfing in the icey water, I hiked up a trail to get some photos.

This is a panorama stiched together from 27 photos. Right as I was taking the last photo, it started pouring rain. I ran down the trail in an effort to get back to the beach and help carry stuff, only to find that my friends had already carried everything (including my camera bag) back to the car. Oops.

Check it out large on black

Based on nixter's suggestion, I re-cropped the photo. I still like both versions a lot. They feel like totally different photos to me.

Nice panorama... I can't believe you left your camera bag behind. Tisk tisk.

How are the 27 shots arranged within the final result?

Really wonderful shot. I love the layers and how the eye is drawn in. Although it is not necessary, you may want to crop out a bit of the sky, since it doesn't really add much to the image (see my note's crop suggestion).

@Penagate: In a grid-like format? Hehe.

@negativespace.com: I agree. I actually had even more of the sky in the original. I cropped a bunch of it out before I uploaded it, so I felt like this was a compromise. I liked how the trees on each side framed the shot.

@nixter: I actually tried out that exact crop, but I couldn't give up the dirt on the ground. I like how it anchored the view to the viewing point.

@nixter: After staring at a version w/ your crop for a while, I realized how much I liked the focus shifting to the ocean. With my version, no one thing has the focus.

I understand and appreciate the trees framing the shot, but I just thought it wasn't as important as removing the sky.

Thanks for the props on the crop. I think both versions are great...I usually have a problem giving up the "whole" picture when using a wide angle lens....

It's really easy to stitch them together in photoshop. Just go File > Automate > Photomerge. Select all the photos, and photoshop will find their correct placement and blend them together. It's as easy as that!
