Fog rolling over the Marin Headlands towards Sausalito. Shot from the Tiburon Uplands Nature Preserve.

There was some low fog during the afternoon today. As the sun got lower, I could see on the cams that the bridge was socked in, but it was still sunny in Tiburon, so I tried out this spot. Maybe on the far side from the bridge and city.

[ Update: reposted a slightly brighter version, as the original looked too dark on an iPad. ]

Fog season started in mid-March this year, much later than usual. On this night the rangers kept the gate to Hawk Hill open later also. I missed out on an all day fog show plus it was socked in (as it often does after sunset) when I arrived. Fortunately it cleared up, actually to the point where all the fog was south of the bridge, before socking in again. This was my favorite shot of the night, not sure why.

I like John King's review of The Bay Lights:

www.sfgate.com/bayarea/place/article/Bay-Lights-dazzles-b...

The lights are invisible from YBI and partially visible (the eastern half) from TI. I know this is to prevent the lights from being seen by westbound drivers, but it's unfortunate, since YBI is the only place that is close to the bridge and near eye level with the lights.

I do like the fact that a decent amount of light makes it to the "back" side of SF, south of the bridge. This allows the towers to cut silhouettes in front of the strands and thus there is some interplay with the architecture.

Lastly, I think it'll be hard to get a good reflection off the bay. It's usually not still enough to reflect even the towers except during a heat wave, plus the permanent deck lighting is brighter than all other bridge lights.

This is the first time I've shot low fog at night from Battery Spencer. I've always liked how the fog rolls through the hills of the Presidio, and wound up focusing on that here. I've blended in a darker exposure of the bridge to control the blowout.
