Gorillas! Volcanos National Park, Rwanda![]() Yes, I said Gorillas! Plural! After climbing up to 10,000 feet on one of the many volcanoes in this park, we were admist the Susa family group of Mountain Gorillas. There are only 700 mountain gorillas left in this world and they are all found in the Verundi Massif Park of eastern Congo, western Uganda and northern Rwanda. This is the area where Dian Fossey studied the gorillas until her death (not by gorillas) in 1985. Our trip was a nine mile loop up to the gorillas and back again. At one point, by spinning in a circle and counting, I could spot 22 distinct gorillas sitting all around our group and having lunch. Unbelievable!! J
