Last weekend I traveled to Nanning for a Saturday Flickr meet with Robert Lio and Life In Nanning. On Friday afternoon I took a walk around the area near my hotel. It was hot and humid but the late afternoon sun was really good for about an hour. I turned a corner and this great green wall was staring me in the face. It reminds me of something left over from the 70's. Yes I am that old. This one strikes a chord in me, one of my favorites from China so far. See Bob and Michael's shots from the Flickr walk on their photostreams,Life In NanningandRobert Lio
Now this really could be anywhere in the
world, there really is nothing specifically
Chinese about it...Lovely that the handles
are all pretty colours...:)
These colors and textures are amazing. Make
me realize how boring and plain vanilla
things get here in the "West"
sometimes.

Mops, brooms, dust pans, peeling paint,
graffiti - how amazingly have you coaxed
great beauty out of these seemingly
incongruous and not-so-pretty elements.
Another one for your book, Michael.
I missed visiting your stream for a couple
of days and I notice you have posted several
pictures. I will have to come back later to
see the rest of your recent uploads.
Teaching day today and will have to prepare
for my classes.

I'm going to fave this twice! For someone who
lives a lot of my time in monochrome world,
you bring me right into the color zone with a
vengeance and boy do I love it.

This is truly a masterpiece - love the broom
handles, the green wall, flowers and peeling
plaster revealing the bricks. It just works
so well. Wonderful. Only you would have seen
this.

Yes this is one of my favorites as well. I
remember when you saw it you actually said
"Wow, look at that!" I see why
now, even if I didn't understand then.

Something very theatrical about this one.
Almost looks like a a set up shot, with props
and lighting. It is wonderfully poignant. And
the colour is fabulous!

My favorite part of this shot is the colorful
bloom and mop sticks. Love the green color
and textures of the wall, obviously :)

Happy wall - despite the decay it conveys a
positive mood. Perhaps the sunny shade of
green or the splashes of other colours, and
the floral graffiti give it this vibe.
(I agree, anyone who was around in the 70-s
will connect with this shot in a special
way).
Could be a great album cover :)

This is a cracker. Has a studio like feel to it despite being a backstreet in Nanning.
