it's a photoshop cutout, quickmask probably? doesn't really appeal to me on a completely subjective level.

Hi. (hope this isn't too long and boring...)
This photo was taken with a Canon film camera in 1992. Today I scanned the negative and opened it in PaintShop Pro. I selected the single face. (I tried drawing around it but am not steady enough with the mouse so I used the Selection Tool set at Circle and with the shift key kept pressed progressively selected several circles - the face is nicely curved.) I inverted the selection and, still with the shift key depressed, I drew around the ribbon. That gave me the area I wanted greyscale. I copied that and pasted it as a new image. I made that new image greyscale and copied that. I pasted that as a new layer on the original coloured image.
I used the Magic Wand selector to select the eyes and painted them white. I found a photo of eyes and resized it and copied only the eyes and pasted them into my white eye areas.
I softened the edges and painted a single pixel highlight (that you can see at the larger size) on each eye.
Job done!
(There may be a quicker way to do some of this but I am learning as I go.)

M.O.C. This is so subjective (6/10 v 10/10). I wanted a face nearer the centre than the edge. This one is slightly angled so gives a slightly quizzical feel. Could have been fourth to the right of this one though.

the vertical arrangement is very pleasing to look at and the open-eyed mask is both surreal and creepy.

Felt it very hard to mark this one, because whereas this works as a piece of art - like the Warhol prints, endlessly repeating the same picture with different colours - as a photograph, I would have preferred to see this in all B&W or all colour.

If it was to be a combo of both B&W and colour, maybe the shot could have been tightened in to four, or perhaps nine of the masks. As it is currently, with the amount of masks in there, it feels a bit of sensory overload.

Great thinking for the idea. And seeing that this was taken in New Orleans, could the one 'live' face be a metaphor for the city trying to recover? Or am I looking too deeply into it :)

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 5.5/7 ranking.

This picture suffers the same problem that most scanned pictures do. It doesn't appear to be sharp. I only could help with this when I bought my Coolscan and tried hours and hours on which settings I get the best results. And I keep on trying to improve it still.

I'm not so fond of the selective colorization either. I cannot tell you why, but I simply wish the colored part was the face of a human instead. This would be a clear winner.

Marking on this shot is inevitably very personal. Some will love it, some not so.

I don't like the very soft focus, and the desaturation. It doesn't convert what I consider to be a very standard composition into anything special.

I feel the same about all processing really. To score well a photo needs good basics of composition.

What I do like best is your obvious willingness to experiment!

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 4.5/7 ranking.

WOW What a job ! Congratulations !
Now this image is so different from the real shot that it is very difficult to give it a rank. Technic is not in the photo but in the work you made with tools, so that I'm going to give an opinion on the result, even if the original shot must be good to get the result you have.

From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 6.5/7 ranking.

Personally I would like to see this in colours, Why B&W, to make this more interesting? This is more a gray orgy! I don't get the feeling I am sorry, 4/7 from MiRea's Realm group.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, to quote a popular phrase. This composition falls into that category. Too often the contributers and myself included in websites like these just dole out eye candy, but is it really art? Art is a vision up for interpretation and yours is certainly all that. In the numbers game I give it a 11...as well as a FAV.
