Pocket Watch

Pocket Watch

I received this gift today. It is a pocket watch that my Uncle Edward gave to me that his father had given to him. It has been in our family for a very long time.

After some research, I've found the watch was made by American Waltham Watch Co. The date of manufacture is most likely around 1916 judging by the serial number. It is a gold piece in excellent condition mechanically. The case and face of the watch are in fair condition.

I always enjoy items like this. This was an item manufactured in a time when items were hand crafted and quality and craftsmanship were valued. I feel like I could sit here and admire the inner workings of the clock all day while it ticks away. It is amazing that something of this age could be so mechanically perfect and accurate.

Very neat! One of my favorite gifts I've received and I intend to keep it forever and pass it on to my children once they are of age.

Evening Landings in Houston, Texas (IAH)

Evening Landings in Houston, Texas (IAH)

This photo was taken Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) shortly after sunset. I merged a series of photos together to create this. The light trails are from the lights of aircraft as they make their final descent. The random dots are from the blinking lights on the tail of the aircraft.

Courtyards of New Orleans

Courtyards of New Orleans

Walking through the French Quarter I was most surprised by all the small, hidden courtyards I came across at every turn. The small, packed spaces in between houses and buildings had all been converted into private gardens. It definitely made for an efficient and interesting use of space and helped to give this district a much more open atmosphere despite the tightly packed structures.

I must've walked past this courtyard three times before it caught my eye.

Galveston Hurricane Memorial

Galveston Hurricane Memorial

This memorial statue was made to remember the many who died in Galveston during the Hurricane of 1900. More recently after Hurricane Ike the fence was put up around it and the friends and families of victims placed tokens, photos, and tributes on the fence to remember those lost.
