Winter for a Spin + Holiday Prints Sale! by elbelbelb2000

Winter for a Spin + Holiday Prints Sale!

From the photoblog on 12/26/09.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

This is another picture I captured while on my visit to Stone Mountain Park on Christmas Eve. Again, I will admit that I was going for shots with pretty out-of-focus lights in the background. It may be a cliché thing to do during the holidays, but I haven't posted any shots like these in a long time, so I hope you're at least partially receptive to them.

Holiday Prints Sale
I've implemented the holiday theme yesterday, but I am taking it down for two days to run my end of the year prints sale (it wouldn't work well with the holiday theme).

From now until 11:59PM Eastern on December 28, 2009, if you purchase one or more prints, you can take 50% off your order. To buy a print, use the “purchase a print” option located above the photo(s) you want to buy. Then, at checkout, apply this discount code: “B54D54” (no quotes). The code is valid for all print sizes. The orders go through Fotomoto, and you can pay by Paypal or your credit card (learn more about Fotomoto in this post). You can purchase with confidence.

The code is valid for the first ten (10) customers who place the order or until end of day December 28, 2009, whichever occurs first. So act fast. It's the biggest discount I've offered for prints, so I hope someone takes advantage of it. Please note that you can purchase multiple prints in a single transaction; if you just click on the “Continue Shopping” box, you can navigate to a different page, with your item(s) saved in the shopping cart.

And one last thing: if you still can't afford the prints, then I encourage you to check out my free prints giveaway, which runs through December 31, 2009. It's simple to enter and the chance of winning (at the moment) stands at 100%!

UPDATE: More information about this prints sale is on my prints blog.

Thank you very much!

Louvre Courtyard [Paris, France] by elbelbelb2000

Louvre Courtyard [Paris, France]

From the photoblog on 12/10/09.

Don't miss the Louvre Gallery I'm curating here on Flickr!

Seen here is one of the courtyards in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.

I've previously featured The Louvre in my previous posts, including a view of the Louvre and the Glass Pyramid. I also posted an image of one of the ceilings in the Louvre. And the most recent post was from inside the Museum.

What can you discover in this shot? There's that family of four having their picture taken in front of the fountain. On the left side of the frame, there is a group of four, walking in step. On the left side of the fountain, a woman sits while outstretching her hand to take a self-portrait. On the right side of the fountain are six bicyclists. I don't think they're going inside the Louvre, but they are exploring the immense grounds of the Museum.

But the number one reason I am posting this shot is because I want to share something with you all. On Flickr, they have recently created this thing called Galleries. The feature allows any Flickr user to curate a set of up to eighteen images on any subject they choose. Initially, I was resistant to creating galleries (because I focus on creating content rather than distributing it), but yesterday, I decided that I would create one. I am now realizing that by sharing what I think is excellent work, you can also get a further glimpse into what I envision makes for a great photograph (or a set of photographs).

With that in mind, I created a gallery of images of the Louvre Museum. None of the images featured are mine. So without further ado, check out the Louvre Museum Gallery. I provide brief descriptions of why I included the image in the gallery. If you're on Flickr, feel free to chime in with your thoughts of other worthy additions that I might have missed. It's pretty cool being a curator, even in the online world!

Mozartsteg [Salzburg, Austria] by elbelbelb2000

Mozartsteg [Salzburg, Austria]

From the photoblog on 12/07/09.

Walking across this bridge in Salzburg, Austria is an incredible experience.

First, you can't help but notice how beautifully it is designed. The bridge slopes upward, and as you take a few steps forward, you're able to make out the sign ahead: Mozartsteg. For Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, and this is one of the many landmarks in the city named after him. The Mozartsteg connects Imbergstraße on the right side Salzach River with Mozart Square on the other side (I have at least one picture from Mozart Square I will post in the future). Along the way, I stopped a few times and glanced to my left and right, observing the city in front of me. The Salzach River flows relatively fast, and I used longer shutter speeds for the three captures to show the movement of the water (as can also be seen in yesterday's post, which gives you an overview of the city and the Mozartsteg's location).

As for the capture and post-processing: this is a high dynamic range image, captured from three separate exposures. I tonemapped the final result in Photomatix Pro, after which I made some adjustments in Adobe Lightroom, followed by an export to Photoshop (where I used a channel mixer to manipulate some of the colours on the wooden planks of the bridge), and then back to Adobe Lightroom for final post-processing.

What do you think of the final result? If you aren't a fan of HDR photography, feel free to chime in with your criticism.

In other news: I have been working over the last few days in updating my archives. In particular, I have now categorized a lot of my images based on country visited. It's still a work in progress (I have to find the respective photoblog entry one by one, and then tag accordingly, which is a time-consuming process; I spent about three hours on the work today), but it should give you a different way to browse my photos. For convenience, below are the links to the updated galleries. So take a look around and explore! There's definitely quite a bit to discover in the galleries below:

Spain | Tunisia | Austria | Switzerland | Czech Republic | France | Germany | Hungary

Thanks for your visit!
