John Jackson was an astronomer who worked at the Greenwich observatory
and later became His Majesty's Astronomer at Cape Observatory, Cape
Town, South Africa

He led an expedition to Alor Star in 1929 to observe the eclipse and
Mr Bedlington, the surveyor to the Kedah government, was put in charge
of the 45feet telescope whilst Jackson took the plates for the 21 feet
