Crowd PleaserI'm taking photos right there. what are these? These are grain elevators-- they hold wheat brought in after harvesting, waiting to be milled into flour. Minneapolis was the flour-milling center of the world from about 1880 to about 1920. This area along the river was lined with huge flour mills, most of which are gone now. This is the ruins of one of the major flour mills. It has been stabilized and turned into a museum about flour milling. ![]() Crowds of people gathered along the banks of the Mississippi River on the edge of downtown Minneapolis to watch last night's Aquatennial fireworks show, sponsored by Target . This is on the west bank, near the Guthrie Theater, the Mill City Museum, and Mill Ruins Park.
