Waterfall bathers
Between 40-50 men (and a couple of fully dressed women) gather underneath Ma'in's geothermally heated public waterfall - this photo only contains about half of them and many were wearing over-sized underwear! The water temperature is somewhere between 45-50 deg C (around 120 F) and the bottom of the pool is filled with about 7cm of slimey but therapeutic mud that the men apply to their skin. I bathed in the nearby private waterfall that has fewer people and is more open about mixed bathing.

Desert vista
Now that I've spent four months in the Middle East, I've come to the conclusion that the desert in central Jordan might just be my new favourite place. The landscape is just breathtaking and I find the lifestyle of the bedouin people who live here extremely fascinating.

Bedouin camel guide
This bedouin man urged me to continue exploring the desert with him on one of his camels, instead of by 4WD jeep. Though I declined on this occasion, I really want to return to Wadi Rum and go on a camel safari for a few days. They say there's nothing quite like sleeping under the stars in the desert...

Desertscape
Parts of the Wadi Rum desert remind me of outback Australia. In some places, the rocky mountains rising straight out of the sand are so huge and plentiful that they almost look like a hundred Ulurus (also known as Ayers Rock).
