Louis Vuitton Square

So screwed up ... Louis Vuitton Building overwhelms Sukhbaatar Square in Ulaanbaatar. Sukhbaatar would turn in his grave, but they already moved his tomb out of the square.

Maybe smart shoppers can pick up a hand tooled pigskin ger covered in the LV logo.
But wait there's more to make chic nomads run for a bottle of Chinggis Vodka ... this quote from Chairman of Louis Vuitton Yves Carcelle:

"Mongolia’s image as one of the last true frontiers of the world perfectly fits our brand’s image of “chic nomadism”. We are happy to be part of this appeal of Mongolia."

None of square nor building belongs to Louis Vuitton. LV just rents part of first floor in that tower.

Yes of course, this is the central tower, but this giant billboard for French-made luxury goods at what is the heart of your country seems to be lacking in dignity. Mongolians might think it's cool. Maybe it rubs me the wrong way because I've lived in Tokyo and Los Angeles.

But for me from an architectural point of view this building is way out of proportion with all the other buildings around the square and looks cheap. Take a look at the Bodi Tower behind Golomt Bank for example, it is big and modern but it doesn't clash with the atmosphere of Sukhbaatar square.

Ya ya, I am totally with you. Actually, Sukhbaatar square is designed to be very classic and arrogant. Unfortunately, this Central Tower and Municipality Building broke this architecture. In my opinion, it is very bad for heart of capital city :-(
