Muriwai Beach, North of Auckland. It is one of the West Coast beaches that can turn dangerous very quickly. It is up the coast from Piha, where they filmed The Piano.
It didn't look this dark in Photoshop.
Firefox and Picasa both display photos darker with stronger colour than Photoshop, I have yet to work out why and I am converting the profile before saving them (especially the raws)
