We teach beginners of all ages, where I work. This rose is in the garden of one of our seniors. She was having trouble connecting to the internet with the modem her grand daughter had given her, so I offered to go round and check it out.
There were still some late blooming roses in the garden, so I had to delay my return to work by taking some shots. I am looking forward to returning when the over 40 varieties (alll with scent) will be in bloom.
Hmm, didn't realise when I posted this to
MiRea's Realm, that there was a rose before
it. Both of them with a totally different
feel, which I think shows the versatility of
the rose!

I don't think this is out of focus, the dof
is tiny:
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/2.8
slower shutter, smaller aperature, I think.
There isn't quite a large enough dof here,
the whole thing doesn't have to be razor
sharp, in fact the softness is nice, I think,
but it's too soft right now. I want to see
more of the details inside the petals, not
just the edges.
The color is great, and I really love how
it fades to white (although maybe a bit
darker than 100% white would be nice)

I like 3/4s of the image, the bottom quarter
I'm not fond of. The almost ugly grey tones
in the bottom right screws up the soft
romantic feeling here, and the harsh edge in
the bottom left (that looks blue on the edge)
does the same. Everything above that is
wonderful, but it's a shame about the lower
portion nonetheless

This is a good shot, however it is a bit of
bad luck that you placed it just behind one
of the best shots of roses I've ever seen,
and so my brain tries to compare them.
For me the whole picture is washed out a
bit. It's much too bright. The DOF works for
me, it gives it a dreamlike quality - and I
think this is what you wanted to accomplish.
I agree as well about this grey part of the
picture, it detects from this feeling.
Overall good points but not outstanding.
