Killing Time
The Curvature of Space
An installation consisting of drawings and paintings made in order to tear up the notion of flatness in space.
A space without curvature is called a flat space or Euclidean space. Curvature is the amount by which a geometric object deviates from being flat. Here, the concept applies to space, and the intention is to enter into the space itself, becoming part of it: engaging with the space rather than competing with it.
The space becomes permeable as we contemplate the objects, thus breaking down the borderline between interior and exterior.
As we walk around and amidst the pieces that conform this installation, it becomes clear that the protagonist is not the object, but rather the dynamic space created around the object. The interactivity that is offered here leads to a new awareness of that reality.
Observing the installation brings about simple yet diverse sensations. We may at first be looking simply at an assemblage of works, but later we discover elements that escaped us at first sight; that is, by looking longer and experiencing the space thoroughly, we may notice other spatial realities. Lines are one-dimensional, while planes and volumes are multi-dimensional.
Moreover, when moving amidst the works, our experience is not just spatial but also temporal. What we have here, then, is “the model of an experience.”
“Killing Time” means in this context taking one’s time to become aware of space. It means figuratively piercing the concept of time and taking part in a spatial reality.
