"Red" the backyard chicken

"Red" the backyard chicken by eschipul.
We just moved to a new house and are closing on the old house this week. Thoughts of the old house took me to the time we bought chickens and had them in our backyard. Not sure why, and I promise I was not the one who bought them. I can't remember their names. But they were good looking birds.

And tasty too!

UPDATE: The chicken's names were Red and ??
UPDATE2: The chicken's names were Red and Bella per comments.

That is one beautiful chicken! But I don't like to think about you eating them. Ew. (I know, I know, I still don't like to "see" my food.)

What if I mentioned they "tasted like chicken"? Would that make it better?

You are a sick puppy. Everyone knows that chickens grow in a back room at Kroger, and that they were never alive before we got them from their neat styrofoam packages. Honestly!!

Truth be told we thought we had two hens. One turned out to be a rooster. I sort of think they may be against deed restrictions. And the rooster crowing at 4:30 in the morning was a bad thing.

So we returned them to a friend who lives in the country. No really, they went to live at a happy farm in the country. Really.

Question

What do the chickens on the bottom of the coop eat?

No chickens were harmed in the making of this chicken dinner . . . really.

@deneyterrio - these were "free range" chickens so there was no coop involved. Thus I can't answer your question.

One other topic that came up was the dog. Interestingly, AFTER the first meeting, the dog and the chickens learned to coexist. The dog was coerced, but it worked out. But the crowing was the death of them....

We have had chickens on and off since we were kids. My parent have 3 currently and its the same house I grew up in.

When I lived in an older house in Pearland, we had a chicken, a duck and a rooster. When we moved up to the 'Master Planned Community' of Silverlake, they couldn't come with us. :(

Beautiful bird!

We had names like Brewster for the Rooster...

The chicken's names were "Red" and "Bella" although Bella later turned out to be... "Bill"... a rooster. And you did not eat them!!!
