Great catch. I sat in one of these at a car
show in San Diego when I was about 12--would
have been '82--when I believe they were still
in production. It seemed virtually sound
proof - I could hear none of the show noise
at all once me and my best friend Sean
hunkered down in the seats.
Only other one I've ever seen since is broken
down in a mechanic's car lot somewhere on
16th street in Sacramento.
Great cars and quite visionary. Too bad
Delorean couldn't keep from snorting coke.
They weren't all that great of cars even,
they had stainless steel exteriors but all
the hardware was just normal steel so it
rusted on the inside and no one really
expected it - or so I've been told :P. Even
hearing that, I'd love to have one. Great sighting!
I used to walk past the slowly-decomposing
original (or perhaps one of several used?) in
the Universal Pictures parking lot, back in
the 90s - I wonder if someone bought it and
restored it, or if this is a replica.
Universal Studios gave away one of their
DeLoreans as part of their farewell to the
Back to the Future ride.
I recall there was a DeLorean parked in front
of the ride that looked like a shoddy mock up
of the real picture car used in the movie. I
wonder if they gave away that one, or the
actual picture car used in the movie.
HAHA, I saw that De Lorean every day when I
worked at Verdugo Hills Hospital! Right next
to the BMW (or Jaguar?) that had the license
plate "I[heart]BYPSS." As you might
have guessed, it's the license plate of a
surgeon. I miss seeing it. :(
The guy that owns this particular DeLorean
owns DeLorean Motors (restoration shop) in
Garden Grove. There was an article in the LA
Times a couple of weeks ago interviewing him.
He'd stated that he takes "The
DeLorean" to fund raising events all
over. Needless to say...he gets a crowd. : )
completely awesome, i agree, was good
production car though de loreon could not
stop with the drugs and alcohol and not to
mention the smugglers hatch in the back seat
of the car.
