Oak savanna 14-year-old planting with photo
This is one of my favorite photos. Planting trees is an investment and an act of faith.
The trees were planted in 1993 as part of an extensive and quite impressive prairie and savanna restoration project (hence the very wide spacing between trees). The photo in the photo was taken that year. This photo was taken in Sept. 2007, 14 years after the planting. Click to view a photo taken from the same spot without the inset photo. See notes on this set for location & some other details. If you're thinking about planting trees in Minnesota, see this discussion thread on MyMinnesotaWoods.org. The thread includes a detailed analysis of costs and work involved in planting 650 trees on a family property.
