We don't know how long this boat has been left abandoned, or what let it here, or how long it's been. We can just speculate, and invent our own story.
If only those palmtrees could speak...

This elevator is used to go from the lower part of the city (Cidade Baixa) to the upper part (Cidade Alta), in Salvador de Bahia. The original structure of the Lacerda Elevator was inaugurated in 1873 and served as model for the Santa Justa Elevator in Lisboa, which opened in 1902.
The Lacerda elevator is still used today as a means for public transportation, the fare runs about $0,10.

This is a street of the Pelourinho, the historical center of the city of Salvador de Bahia; it is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
Easily walkable, Pelourinho has something to see along every street, including churches, cafes, restaurants, shops and the pastel-hued buildings.
