Fathoms
I have neither food, nor water
I have neither pain, nor medicine
I can neither dream, nor sleep
I'm in this blighted place
And I'm haunted by an ocean that beckons me.
I hear its siren call of oblivion
And within contained: a sad and wonderful plea
of eerie depths and cool embrace
I'm in this blighted place
And I'm haunted by an ocean that beckons me.

Rose
I will walk the road as long as the road goes
I will try to dodge the rock the valley throws
revealer... caught a fever
we all have a sinking stone
And when the road presents a twisting case of fate,
a meaner irony to contemplate
the season... comes with reason
we all have a setting sun
Distance, mark of distance
Your burden is your brilliance
there’s a vessel, a hidden vessel in the stone
Difference, not indifference
your passion marks you different
And you wrestle,
how you wrestle to come to know...
the whispering light
the truth is awful quiet
like it's whispering at night
can tell you how to break... the fever

Buoy
There's a little part of you
Faraway from cars
Faraway from cash
That's faraway from war
Faraway from tears
And faraway from the past
Faraway from here
Faraway from here
Faraway from shore...

The Clearing
Suddenly I stop
but I know it's too late
I'm lost in a forest
All alone
The girl was never there
it's always the same
I'm running towards nothing
again and again and again

Sixteen things
My dear friend Billy, who turned 39 this week, asked me to share sixteen random things about myself:
1. I look more like my Grandmother (pictured above) every day, now if only I could posses her joie de vivre! Don't let her sophisticated appearance fool you - this lady is and always has been at least 80% mischief.
2. I love it when my husband makes me pancakes. They are delicious.
Sometimes he adds blueberries.
3. I have a soft spot for 80's pop culture. I gotta get back in time.
4. If somebody told me I was only allowed to wear blue jeans that would be okay with me. If I start the day wearing something besides jeans I still end up in a pair by the end of the day.
5. I am a pretty decent cook. This year my goal is to expand my repertoire of Italian dishes.
6. I let my dog sleep in my bed. He's only twelve pounds but manages to take up a lot of room, tosses and turns, and sometimes he is gassy. It's a good thing he's cute.
7. When I was sixteen I was terribly good at the piano. At thirty-two I am terribly rusty. My dream piano is a Bösendorfer. I wish I knew how to play the cello.
8. I've had braces (no toffee or caramels!) for the last three years... they are coming off in March! I miss being able to chomp into an apple or a crusty, chewy baguette. Chris is taking me out for a steak dinner to celebrate.
9. I am a movie junkie. My favorites are dramas and independent films. Every once in a while I'll rent a horror movie just to see if they still scare me to the point where I can't sleep.
10. I love the smell of freshly cut grass, rain, sawdust, and a newly opened box of band-aids. They don't make that perfume.
11. I am a minimalist. I have three knick-knacks in my entire home. It makes dusting easier.
12. In the fifth grade I said I wanted to be an actress/entertainer star when I grew up which is ironic since I get terrible stage fright. When I'm all alone I love to put on a rousing performance including dancing (trust me you don't want to see that) and singing (trust me you really don't want to hear that!)
13. I am married to my best friend. I also happen to think he is pretty cute. Plus, the pancakes thing.
14. Whenever I watch a wilderness documentary I decide I want to live in the middle of nowhere.
Then I start worrying about how far I would be from a good Mexican restaurant.
15. I will continue to go to rock concerts until I am at least 80 even though I remember laughing at thirtysomething's at concerts when I was a teen. Growing old is inevitable but acting old is overrated.
