Climbing the Harbour Bridge, high above the Sydney harbour. It's a daunting task if you suffer from vertigo.
Can you spot the couple in love?
Learn more about the Sydney Harbour Bridge:
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of both Sydney and Australia. The bridge is locally nicknamed The Coathanger because of its arch-based design, although this usage is less prevalent than it once was.
The bridge was the city's tallest structure until 1967. According to Guinness World Records, it is the world's widest long-span bridge and its tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres (429.6 ft) from top to water level. It is also the fourth-longest spanning-arch bridge in the world.

I believe that the tone of blue you impressed
on the photo is its soul. I like the tone
going from the dark of the clouds to the pale
bottom, with all the people standing as
silhouettes against it.
Technically the photo is well done, there is
no DOF, but for a silhouetting shot it is
fine. The contrast is spot on, and everything
is just a shadow, apart from the sky. The
glasses on the main cabin add more interest,
creating more blue tonality, I love it.
If I can find a problem in this photo I
think I have to point to the framing. The
fact that you did not get anything else is
really good, but I think that there are few
details that do not make this photo
"perfect". First of all I think
that in this special case you should forget
the usual 3:2/4:3, but crop the photo to give
the architectural elements the winning shape.
I think that your photo should be cut
diagonally by the bridge structure, from the
left-bottom angle, to the right-top one. This
means a cutting the clouds a little bit, but
maybe if you higher the blue tone you will
not lose the spectacular perception. Giving a
natural element the capability to shape the
photo you will give the overall perception a
huge strength, because the eyes will focus on
everything.
To be honest I do not like very much the
fact that the cabin cannot be placed with the
rule of the third, but you cannot do anything
with a crop.
I loved the photo, the tones, the human
figures. I like it, I think this is a great
shot.
I have proposed a possible crop, that in my
opinion would work better!
Great Job!

Great photo with great tones of blue. I like
the strong contrast on the silhouette
compared to the smooth gradient in the
clouds. Also the people against the sky are
beautiful. I agree that the composition isn't
perfect, though. The cabin would really need
to be off the center. The idea of putting the
bridge on the diagonal is good, although i
wouldn't loose that great sky.
Good job, my friend, and perfect colors!

I'm not one to know too much about
architectural design, that's my brother's
field! But I do find this quite interesting
and appealing to look at. I agree with one of
the previous comments with the crop version
noted. I think that will give it far more
impact. I quite like the strong blue with the
deeper blue in the clouds against the
silhouette.
Well done!

As I mentioned on this Critique thread , I went through no less than 14 revisions of
this, mainly with the crop, being a
cropoholic myself (yes, I know that there's
no such thing as cropohol) and definitely not
favouring set ratios over composition. In any
other crop the composition suffered. Even a
square crop was suggestion and tried out to
no avail.
The sky really needs to be in there (in my
opinion) to give the sense of scale this
photo needs. Note also how the x-beams need
to be all in place to create a good balance
between the three.
Thanks for excellent insightful comments
from the both of you!

Love the fact that you really took the extra
effort to add in a detailed description and
even a hyperlink for this photo!
Simply adore those cool blue tones and
silhouettes, gives the viewer a real relaxed
feeling :]
However, I wouldn't crop it further though,
a bit of sky gives this image more
flexibility, and allows viewers to imagine
the real height of the bridge.
I love the tones, the bridge, the people,
composition, ooh and the sky, it's
beautiful...the clouds really brightens up
this pic too.

Fantastic composition which could be improved
through the crop suggested. The sky colour is
brilliant and the silhouettes perfect. Really
gives a sense of scale.
Probably a nice time to have 2/3 system
(Olympus) to get the reach for the photo :)
It must be a fantastic view from up there.

Nice find, and I like the silhouetting of the
people. And I agree about the crop as well.

Thanks again for all your comments everyone!
I'm usually on the other side of the debate
of close cropping so I completely understand
where you all are coming from (some are
agreeing with me however).
The sky is there for scale. Believe me when
I say I have tried pretty much every possible
crop. It just loses a lot of it's impact when
that sky is shaved off. The lines are nicer
diagonally, but somehow the story of the
picture gets diminished.
That's not to say that I do not appreciate
the input, because I do! Thank you every one
of you!
