Actually it is very good reasoning for the
Cable companies to invest in in WiMax, you
said it yourself , "Wimax is more an
alternative to fixed internet service than
mobile phone service". WiMax is a
potentiall competitor that could prove to
offer far superior internet service than what
the cable companies currently provide, and it
can be taken with you anywhere you go, unlike
cable internet. If you can't beat em, join em
and be rewarder for their success.
Furthermore Wimax is being built by phone
companies to provide phone service. This does
not mean that the cable companies have to get
into the phone business just because that is
what WiFax was built for. They can leave that
to the phone company, and sell internet
access via WiFax. And by being an investor in
the network the cable companies will have
leverage to decide what it can be used for,
thus the cable companies could negotiate that
the phone companies can not sell stand alone
internet service without phone service, and
thus reduce the cable companies competition,
while the cable company in return agrees not
to sell phone service. Finally WiMax will
open up a whole new market in which products
and services are available that where never
before possible. By having access to the
network the cable company could distribute it
classic tv and news content in a variety of
new ways, taken the networks wireless nature.
Sirius and XM radio would be wise to invest
in this also, lest it be their superior
competitor. And hell the more that invest in
WiMax the sooner we will get to use and the
more totally badass it will be.
