And this is why it's worth the effort to travel 5K miles by air, 300 miles by car and 20 miles by foot. Because it can lead to a defining moment in someone's lifetime, like this one. Remarkable.

> Paul, another 3000+ miles. Only a few thousand more and we're in New Zealand. Lets bring Emily, any other takers and go next week!

> mesawyou, you just swore and that makes me laugh. Thanks!

> M, M, P, H, B, J, R, G, & G: Thank you, your comments mean a lot to me.

Just before, we imagined our doom in pitching camp to cook and sleep in the rain. After miles of glacial-stream crossing* and fighting the bush, we felt the downpour dampen our joy in being outside on adventure. Then, as we climbed to higher ground for pathfinding, the clouds parted way from the sun and this glorious rainbow appeared.

The remoteness and existential clarity of raw perfectible nature makes this rainbow special to me. Wrangell-St. Elias represents nearly 10 percent of the entire National Wilderness Preservation System. Along with its adjoining Canadian cousin, the parks are the largest internationally protected area in the world. We were comfortably alone on this land for at least a hundred miles round. Aside from the rainbow standing for and with unblemished nature, it also meant we were starting to dry off. Joy!

*I can't wait to share more.

Beatiful. But it's not just a double rainbow. When you look closely under the top of the main rainbow there seem to be some more rainbows struggling to be born. No-one mentioned that before!
