This empty storefront is a blast from the past - Woolworth's left the USA when I was a kid.
UPDATE: the storefront is occupied and all woolworth signage is gone. =(

I'll have to get a new photo, but the store was leased and all exterior signage referring to Woolworth is gone. Glad I got a few shots before that happened!

Eric, you must be pretty young; there was a Woolworth's on Clement up until....gosh I don't remember! Within 10 years ago.
When I was a kid ('50s - '60s) there was a Woolworth's at Clay and Polk. My dentist was across the street and I would stare at the Woolworth's sign while he worked on my teeth. Mom would take my sister and me over there to look around sometimes. I think we bought goldfish there once. The wooden floors were very creaky. I loved the place, and the antiquity of it. That was a great Woolworth's; I liked it better than the big one downtown.

I grew up in Alabama - all the Woolworth's left Alabama before I turned 10 and I'm 35. We used to shop at one of the ones that closed.
