Winter Heron

I really messed up today, not bringing my camera with me to school. As I got out of class, I took my usual route through the Japanese Garden, to check on the Koi, and spend a couple seconds to myself. For the second time, I encountered a bird seeking lunch in the garden, this time a great Blue Heron, standing majestically on a snow-covered rock in the middle of the Koi pond. He stared at me, this perfectly round reptilian eye, and we just watched each other for a minute or two. I left, the Heron watching me, and rushed home to get the camera.

By the time I got back he was gone, so I took some photos around the area. As I got in my car to leave, I looked back and saw the big guy fly onto this roof and perch. I took out my digital camera again, and this time I got him, right before he flew off again.
