Me: "Oropallo & Oropallo? I think you were trying to be cute here."
Mom: "No, you had to make it look like a real book."

"Re": My mother's autobiography (inside)

Inside the autobiography my mother (Marie "Re" Daddino) created in 1958, when she was nearly seventeen years old--those brown rectangles are where masking tape eventually stained the paper. More to come.

Mom: "95. Well, that was my grade from my English teacher."
Me: "Do you remember who it was?"
Mom: "Um...no. Well, it might pop in my head."

"Re": My mother's autobiography (cover)

The cover of an autobiography my mother (Marie "Re" Daddino) created in 1958, when she was nearly seventeen years old. More to come.

Me: "So why did you make this book?"
Mom: "It was a school project. An English project, probably."
Me: "Where did the photo come from?"
Mom: "When we were in high school, the 'in' thing was going into the city to a photography school where you posed for them and got copies of the picture."
Me: "Wait, would you pay them?
Mom: "No. You got pictures for free. I guess they did this rather than paying a model."
Me: "I don't get it. Were you modeling clothes?"
Mom: "No. They were just taking pictures. They were learning how, I guess."
Me: "So you made this entirely by yourself?"
Mom: "Yes."
Me: "You typed it yourself?"
Mom: "Yes, on an old Remington typewriter. Well, it wasn't old at the time. It was my own--I probably got it when I went to high school."

West Hills Day Camp Progress Report #2 by epicharmus

West Hills Day Camp Progress Report #2

"I am afraid that Michael has not benefited fully from what the camp has to offer. Michael has had a little difficulty adjusting to the group. I have tried to explain to Michael that the reason for this is his reluctance to get involved in group activities. I feel that this reluctance is due mostly to a lack of confidence, rather than a lack of skills as a Michael seems to believe. On the occassions that he has involved himself in the activities, he has performed on par with the other boys. If Michael tries to function more harmoniously in a group situation I am certain that the second half of the summer will be more fulfilling for him. He has improved since the beginning of the summer but there is still room for improvement. Myself and the other counsellors will continue to help him in this area. We anticipate continued progress and a happier second half for Mike. -- Rich"
