George's Web site has the patterns and the science. I totally ROBOed him after yer hubby ROBOed me!

He's cranking out "Modular Kirigami" like mad, and actually giving a paper at the Bridges Conference in Spain this year. He's claiming to have coined the term.

Check it out!

Actually, a Japanese artist was the first one to design this piece.

@paperfolderman: The designer, George Hart (a computer science professor, artist and sculptor), responded to your statement as follows:

“Not that I have heard before, but it certainly is possible that many people thought of it independently, since it is just a subset of the faces (the square ones) of the well-known icosidodecadodecahedron.

Is there a reference for the Japanese design? I’m curious did they do it in five colors?

I started from the icosidodecadodecahedron from a discussion with someone named Charles Butler, as noted in the acknowledgment in this paper.”

... Speaking of being late to the party - I've only now truly noticed your efforts here.

Lovely.
