pipes and fittings

our gray water system's leach field consists of the above parts in various quantities:

20 x 1m pipe - I bought it in 1m sections with one large end to accept fittings (with slits cut along central line, using angle grinder)

1 x u-bend - to slow water entering leach field

1x 45 degree angle (necessary in our system to connect u-bend to rest of system upstream - toward house at higher level)

1x 90 degree corner piece with screw-off drain hole - for drainage / cleaning etc.

5x 90 corner pieces - optional. however, might be sensible to use t-junctions with sealable ends so that system can be expanded at a later date as and when need arises

14x t-junction

NOT IN PICTURE :

5x 0.5m 'aeration chimney' pipes - our own invention to help lessen the chances of an anoxic environment which could harm our vegetable beds / roots

Rubber seals for all pipe joints

This picture again shows the level of the leach field, well below the house.

So, first job after assembling at least part of the system, to work out its over all dimensions , is to choose a suitable site and to mark out the corners (of the underground pipe system). When this is done all the trenches can be dug.

We dug the trenches to a depth of approximately 1 - 1.5 ft
