Bastrop Wildfire Disaster Response Work

Bastrop Wildfire Disaster Response Work

The Bastrop County Complex fire started on September 4, 2011, burning over 34,000 acres and destroying over 1,600 homes. The fire burned 99% of the Loblolly Pine forest in Bastrop State Park. It is the most destructive single wildfire in Texas history. American YouthWorks Environmental Corps members worked with FEMA to supply logistical support for potential community volunteers and create a volunteer management system for the incident. Our work in Bastrop will continue for at least another year as we help the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rebuild and restore Bastrop State Park.
