The Great Tortilla Conspiracy Part of the Mission MAPP April 7th, 7:00pm – 10:00pm Galeria de la Raza / Studio 24 2851 24th Street San Francisco, CA 94110 The Great Tortilla Conspiracy is the world’s most dangerous tortilla art collective. Modeling themselves after the Free Masons, artists Jos Sances, Rene Yañez, and Rio Yañez bring the gospel of tortilla art to the masses like no other. Hot off their residency at the de Young Museum The Great Tortilla Conspiracy is coming to the Galeria de la Raza. The Great Tortilla Conspiracy uses the tortilla as a canvas to make art accessible to the masses. As a medium tortillas have the ability to expose the community to a wide range of issues. The Great Tortilla Conspiracy will be raising issues related to identity, immigration, miracle tortilla apparitions, the high price of tortillas in Mexico, and the rise of Transgenic Corn. The genetic engineering of corn is something that is impacting millions of people in the United States and Mexico and we will be addressing concerns with it through our artwork. We will feature same day digital printing and heat transferring of images on tortillas. Artists and the public alike can witness the process of permanently bonding an image onto a tortilla. The primary artists of The Great Tortilla Conspiracy will be dressed in labcoats baring the sacred seal of the conspiracy and large banners will be hung announcing their presence. Special Features *Our Tortilla Hall of Fame, which features portraits of artists and community leaders on tortillas as recognition of their contributions. * Invited guest artists who will be creating tortilla art in the gallery * Monoprinting on our special digitally printed tortillas. * Live silkscreening on actual tortillas. * Live photo-portraits that can be heat pressed onto tortillas * Interactive component for the public to create their own tortilla art on our digitally printed tortillas. * On-demand Tortilla art shop: get artwork from your favorite tortilla artists transferred onto a tortilla for you to take home. * A special exhibit on the history of corn, tortillas, and tortilla art.
