Renovatus, Home Page

Renovatus (Reno-vah-Toose) is latin for
Renovation . They are located in Charlotte, NC and focus their ministries on serving those in the urban areas of the city. They have an appreciation for the arts and a heart for the community-at-large.
The inspiration for this design came directly from the logo colors and the church name. The site itself appears to be "under renovation." Exposed wallpaper patterns (a koi fish pattern that mimic the logo, better seen within a
interior page ) are used as background elements and paint rolled sections block off areas of content.
Texturing was applied to the logo mark to mimic the rest of the design but kept to a minimum so it didn't appear overwhelming or risk damaging the integrity of the original mark.

On one hand I love that this is so not
typical. On another it feels confusing,
almost as if it's two different sites and
just not quite connected. But I love that
this doesn't look like your normal template
site.

@holycowcreative Confused as to what you mean
by two separate sites. As in the home page
vs. interior pages, the left side from the
right, the top from the bottom or the
textured from the clean.
There's quite a bit to look at on the home
page and I tried not to overkill the
textures. Initially I limited it to the
navigation area and the main image within the
home page and interior pages, but thought the
interior navigation and side image of the interior pages looked awkward and disconnected so I went
ahead and brought it into that area.
Again, Since there is quite a bit of
information on the home page I tried limiting
the use of the paint roller. I want it to be
an element of the design but I don't want it
to dominate the design altogether. Balance is
what I was going for here, but I may have
been looking at this too long the past couple
days to notice when it's not. Any advice on
how to bring it together to feel a little
more connected? Thanks in advance for taking
the time.

@EM I think @hcc was referring to the right
and left halves of the page, i.e. that there
aren't many elements on the page that span
the whole width, generally just ones that
either span the left or right half.
I agree though, it looks awesome and I love
that it's not a traditional template type
design (especially loving how the treatment
is carried onto the interior pages).

I really love the textures. Do you create
them yourself?

@elisa. I usually start out with a pretty
generic stone texture and filter away. The
paint marks are courtesy of the very handy
Alpha Mask within Fireworks. One of the
greatest features ever.
