Today is my 40th birthday. I spent it sitting at the DMV to renew my driver's license and trying to recover from the Plague of 2011: Round Two. Those are not two ways I'd imagined spending my 40th birthday, but I really don't mind. I've already had one birthday party on Sunday and more are on the horizon this coming weekend. After all, it is Birthday Month, so I get all of January to celebrate. And I'M FORTY so I get all of 2012 to celebrate. In my humble opinion.

More importantly, there is so much Awesome and Fantastic going on in my world that what's one little day in early January? There are 363 more of them ahead, and I intend to drink up every moment of them. Not in a lushy sort of way.

Happy New Year to you people. Forty is looking great.

*And yes, I realize that I am ten weeks behind in uploading my 52 Weeks photos but first I had to run a marathon and then I had to be really lazy and then I had to work too much and then I had to get the plague (twice) and well, you get the point.

Apple Pie

Apple Pie

I meant to upload this on Thanksgiving, but well, I had to eat this pie.

The crust edges were a touch overdone, but my dad said that was his favorite part. We ate it warm with Powell's homemade cinnamon ice cream and well, then I died a happy death.

At Work
Portsmouth, NH

The 42nd week of 2011 found me shooting my entire company for our new website. Photos and videos. It was a fun week away from my computer, filled with karate chops, Toyota jumps, Korean ajusshi impressions and lots of blinding everyone with the strobes.

Please note my runner's farmer's tan. Perhaps not the best choice of apparel, says the photographer herself.

I also got my hair cut and was reunited with my bangs. We missed each other, my bangs and me.

Is this project over yet?

The Hallway Again
Portsmouth, NH

Ah yes, we've reached the point in training where my camera did not leave the house. Nor did I, unless it was to run or go to work. This photo was taken after another wretched long run, the last of my 18-milers. This time the IT band started throbbing at mile 8, and I knew I was screwed. Hobble hobble run run hobble run hobble. Cry, worry, tears. Hobble run hobble.

Earlier that week I had started physical therapy, which is fun because you get to do awful things like 30 lunges and 30 wall squats and 30 hip strengtheners. Then you get to go to sports massage so they can put bruises all over your legs. That's fun because you can tell people someone threw you down the stairs because that is exactly what you look like.

And this is why we love running!

We really need to talk about this cake.

Seriously. You have no idea. It's even better than the snacking cake. I didn't think that was even possible.
