I entered this picture in the fireworks 48hrs challenge at www.dpchallenge.com. Here's the original description.
I went out with the rest of my fireworks since last night to try and capture some fireworks going off in the countryside. The Northern lights forecast didn't look good, also it was cloudy and a drizzle of rain.
I decided to go anyway, called up my friend and we went to Kleifarvatn (a popular photo destination) and when we got there it stopped raining, the clouds broke apart and the Northern lights came out... I had 2 small rockets and 2 larger ones and (with help) managed to send them off before it started to snow 20 minutes later! Big thanks to Moe, fellow photographer and Gísli, who was in charge of sending the fireworks off ;)
Post processing included levels and conversion to jpg using Canon
Digital Photo, filtered since I was shooting at iso 800 using Neat
Image. Then curves, High pass filtering of foreground, levels and
border using Photoshop CS3 beta.
Got me the yellow ribbon (3rd place) so I'm very happy with the results.
