The Forest Bookshop (Coleford)

I wonder who lives here,
maybe the bookshop owner :) Fuchsia ----↘
The Forest Bookshop (Coleford) by elhawk.
Coleford is a small town with a lot of old fashioned character, situated in the Forest Of Dean,Gloucestershire. It was previously a centre for both the coal mining and charcoal burning industries, and before that iron ore, which was mined nearby since Roman times.

Lovely name "The Forest Bookshop" and all books where part of a tree, part of a forest.
Quaint and I like that there's a florist right next door,
Two soul feeding goodies in one location.

KelleynRudy, I was a bit short of time when I took this, but next time I make it over to Coleford I will definitely take a browse around inside.

Denise, thank you. I liked the way the two shops were placed together. There are a couple of little cafes in the nearby square.

Mia, yes it's true ... books and trees eh. The Forest Of Dean was obviously also once a great centre for forestry. There is still felling going on but much of the woodland around is managed for wildlife conservation and as a tourist amenity.

Yay! The Forest Bookshop! Best bookshop in the world. I grew up in Coleford and the local paper once ran a competition whereby the first person to go into the Forest Bookshop and sing a specially written song won a £10 book token. I ran all the way there, sang the song and won the token. I was about 7 years old. I think they were quite taken aback that someone had actually done it!

It's my bookshop which I opened in 1976. Lovely picture, lovely comments. Thank you all. The car advert was for the Renault Clio and we new nothing about it until is started to appear in all the glossies. Ian, who works in the bookshop lives upstairs. I remember the singing, but not the song. What was it?

bookbod: It was to the tune of "Oh my darling Clementine" and I believe it began:

"Down in Coleford there's a bookshop"

but that's all I remember. My mum may have cut the lyrics out of the paper for her scrapbook; I'll ask her.
