Her name is Victoria. She entered the
hospital with a little wound in her leg, and
after some days some sores appeared in her
body, because her immune system did not
answer, she losed a lot of weight. She was
very kind, like a little angel.

I don't know what happened to her, sometimes
I think about Victoria and I hope she get
better...It was also an economic problem, a
lot of people cannot pay their treatments.

Elena, yes, your picture speaks a thousand
words. However, the overall silence about
Chernobyl should be alarming to the people of
the planet. The sarcophagus is collapsing and
aging badly. EU promised funds for the
construction of the new one only by 2009,
Ukrainian government is caught up in a
political fight and does not seem to dedicate
due attention to the issue. 10 years ago we
started to bring Chernobyl orphan kids to
Italy for summer vacations in order to give
them a short brake from terrible reality. The
project is still alive and, moreover, it is
quite successful unlike similar ones.
However, we were promoting the project by not
showing pictures of horrible reality, like
kids going to the wooden not-heated public
shithole exposed to those freezing “Russian”
winter temperatures, but rather images of
smiling and vibrant children.

Hi sergey. When I was there They explained me
the plans to make the new sarcophagus and
told me about the danger of collapse of the
old one...I hope the government will pay more
attention.And also I hope after the 20th
aniversary people won´t forget about
Chernobyl, because there is still a lot to
do, a lot to learn about it and the problem
is not over....

Thank you, Elena, for your response. Are you
taking photographs for newspapers? Is that
what you do for living?

Brilliant photograph. This should be
splashed over ever newspaper on the planet;
people live with the terrible effects of this
disaster every day while so many go on with
their comfortable lives relegating it to the
cold obscurity of a history lesson.
Damn it is so sad!

It is very nice of you guys to blame Ukraine
and its government for everything what
happened at chernobyl and for not doing
anything about it. But the whole thing it
not ukrainian fault at all. Ukraine was in
Soviet Union and russia controlled
everything. Chernobil was built to supply
electricity to russia, they just didn't want
to build it on their territory. :) (very
smart move) Now when Soviet Union is not
existing Ukraine is left alone to deal with
everything what russian ( soviet union)
government did. It is very sad that Ukraine
is only known for chernobyl which is not even
its fault.

And who is blaming Ukraine???? I am not
blaming Ukraine for what happened!!!! Ukraine
was another victim of the Soviet Union...like
other countries as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan
( Aral sea problem), Azerbaijan and Armenia (
Karabagh conflict), Georgia with Abjazia and
Osetia.....

It's a common tragedy, it could happen
everywhere. Human suffering is abowe all
possible political or economical excuses.
