Dreaming of home

On my way back at Singapore airport, I was tired, exhausted, sleepy and missing home.

Most homes in Villages in India are pretty old. This one is over 100 years old. Wrought Iron door knockers are indeed required on this 5 inch thick oak door.

Grain storage

Grain storage

In a village, one grows what one eats. Rice being a staple food in South India, Farmers grow them for livelihood and personal use.

Every harvest, there is enough rice stored at homes of the land owners to last a few years. These are locked up in specialized rooms, loose. But for easy access, are also transferred onto large storage containers such as this.

Made of clay and husk, each section of the container is removable. Based on the level of rice in the container, sections are added or removed.

Holy Cows!

Whilst one does not see cows running around on the streets in many cities, it is a common sight for cows to be tied up in front of homes in villages.

Here, a calf helps itself to some breakfast.

Chasing tyres

Chasing tyres

One of the sports that modernization brought to India was chasing tyres.

Though growing up in the city, I used to chase them myself. The idea was to roll the tyres by gently nudging them with ones palm or a piece of stick, when running.

Here a young boy at a village stopped and posed for a shot with his favorite toy.
