...which is only a slight variation on the
sign that they always have at the door. It's
probably still under that one...ready for
when all of the SXSW douchebags leave town
and it's back to the regular local
douchebags.
Beerland is not an official SXSW venue:
Interactive or Music. Unfortunately, a lot of
conference goers assume that badge and band
holders will get preferential treatment
everywhere in the city. In fact many have a
sense of entitlement about it, going so far
as to argue loudly with door guys and the
like about why they're more important than
everyone else in the line.
I think the sign is funny and is trying to
get a point across: You need to wait in line.
Playing devil's advocate here: Many badge
holders pay $$$ in order to go to the
conference and attend parties. So I can see
where they might get angry because they paid
big bucks versus people who didn't pay a
dime.
On the other hand, if Beerland wasn't a SXSW
venue, the sign could have explained that,
and added that "badge holders do not
have priority." Not all bloggers have
badges, and not all badge holders are
bloggers. The sign didn't convey that
message. The sign conveyed disrespect for
bloggers as they are not real writers.
I didn't meet or see a single person (badge
holder or not) anywhere during SXSW get angry
about not being let into a party. I'm
curious to see how Beerland handles their
social media strategy after this.
Oh, and I'll add that I really dislike it
when people play the "I'm a blogger so I
deserve etc...." card. I know many
restaurants who get that line from
self-proclaimed bloggers. Not cool.
Typically the owner will call me, and we
handle it from there.
Whether it's an official SXSW venue or not,
when it hits capacity NOBODY should be let in
until someone else leaves. To do otherwise
would violate safety codes and creates a
dangerous situation for everyone in the
building.
Whats more of a "douche"? Making a
(could have been written differently) sign so
everyone doesn't have to ask the same
question over and over again or people all
asking the same series of questions
repeatedly? Props to the sign. So what if it
seems rude, thats Beerland's mentality.
i love waiting in line. i wish everyone
waited in line. I look down on individuals
who jump the line, or want to jump the line,
or feel like they are entitled to jump the
line.
Epic. I also love that I saw this randomly on
popurls.com, clicked on it, and see that
Erika has the first comment, it's posted by
Eddie who I just met at the SF Embassy at
brunch (yo), and Kara here literally stayed
with us in B unit.

Hah - and this is why I don't go home (to Austin) during SXSW - I made that mistake last year. I'll go visit later :)

Yes but will the sign end up on www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/ ??
Because that would be ironic.

@oblivion i just don't respect doormen. fuck capacity API limits. plus doorman isn't a real job anyway.

Funny that enough people had to actually comment on how popular their blog was in an effort to get in.
Would have loved to hear the person trying to make that argument at the door. "Do you know how many hits I get a month on my blog?" LOL!

I should go back and tell him his poster got me 60,000 hits in 2 days. Thanks for the help & couldja lemme in now?
