Nice capture. It's been a long time since I've seen them roam in pairs without a cub.

John: No no, the polar bears issue is a really serious one, so I would never in my wildest dreams go around and joke about it. Just remember to never send over any of your engineers to Trondheim in January-February, as that's when they are most active downtown. (The snow and the cold forces them to drift into town to find food.)

eirikref and jspaw: it's not really _that_ bad as long as someone in your party is bringing his rifle. and if you choose the hotels closest to the office, it's usually just a one block run there.

Jeebus. The bear problem looks really serious this year. They usually kept at a distance when I lived in Trondheim.

stigsb: that's what you get for having an Ultra and not a Rema 1000 nearby. cheap bastards won't even do 24x7 security - they just lock the gates up real good at night...

I think you may be overrating the powers of us computer engineers, even those located in Mountain View. Some forces of nature - like polar bears - are simply too awesome to be controlled like that.

Those are quite big - much bigger than the skinny bears I remember hanging out our soviet food shops in downtown Moscow during my childhood.

i guess if i'm ever in trondheim i'm going to bring good running shoes. and to think i complain about the traffic going to the sunnyvale office.

Is there really just one shot of this event? Having several shots from different viewing angles would disprove any Photoshop conspiracies.

mikeshilli: I know, and I agree. But trust me, it was scary enough to be even _that_ close, so we just drove by as fast as we could, and didn't really have the nerves to stop and do a full photo shoot ;)

And in other news (Norwegian only, sorry): www.adressa.no/nyheter/trondheim/article12745 91.ece

An insanely dangerous Norwegian moose is on the loose in Trondheim, and the wildlife authorities have advised the public to keep their distance.

Update: As noted at www.adressa.no/nyheter/trondheim/article12705 09.ece, there are now TWO of them, and they have attacked both adults and children alike.

Andreas: It was a "drive by shooting" with my cellphone, so no time to go home to grab a real camera. I guess that is the cost I have to pay for being unprepared :/

Ikke bare lurer jeg stakkarer fra det store utlandet, men jeg ødelegger jo sikkert for turistnæringen. Ingen som tør å komme hit etter dette ;)

Ah, I wonder when Polar Bear Season will hit us this winter; as it depends a bit on the weather, the amount of snow and food out in the wild, etc.
