Things aren't going so well for the company that leased Chicago's parking meters. Every single meter on this block of Damen is broken, and has been broken since a week after they put them up.

Does that make street parking inexpensive and, I assume, generally unavailable?

Well, technically you aren't supposed to park there when the meter is out of order (according to the other side of the meter), but everyone ignores that. It's been at least a month since they broke, and no one has fixed them and no one has gotten a ticket. I think it's actually made parking easier, though, because some people are afraid to park at a broken meter.
