PALESTINIANS-ISRAEL/SHELLING by pinkturtle2.
A Palestinian man reacts in front of the bodies of three children killed by an Israeli tank shell, one of them his son, at Shifa hospital in Gaza January 5, 2009. An Israeli tank shell killed three Palestinian children in their home in eastern Gaza City on Monday, medical officials said. They said several other Palestinians were wounded in the incident in Gaza's Zeitoun neighbourhood. An Israeli militants spokeswoman said she was checking the report. REUTERS/Suhaib Salem (GAZA)

You can read the full, horrendous story at:

chris-floyd.com/component/content/article/3/1 673-gazing-a...

"The three little children lying on the floor of the overcrowded morgue looked like sleeping dolls.

"Get up, boy, get up" cried the weeping father, who lost a total of 13 close relatives when an Israeli shell hit his house east of Gaza City. "Please get up. I am your dad and I need you," he implored helplessly.

The oldest was 4 years old. Their mother was killed too."

With that, if you don't weep, you should feel very, very ashamed.

Israel's actions are clearly wrong, but I'm always amazed at American's ability to be outraged when it's not them.

Israel has caused 200-300 civilian deaths as of my comment here. In a few years of war the US has cause untold (some say 1 000 000) civilian deaths in Iraq.

The US people need to concentrate on stopping their own atrocity which has no end in sight.

@mathOne - I'm not American, so I feel I have every justification for being outraged by Israeli atrocities (and, many times, American ones)

What does surprise me is how many Americans accept , and applaud their behaviour.

One day, look up a French, Spanish or even English, newspaper on the net, and see how much more information you can gather.

@John Rohan - would you be just as cautious if Dr Goebbels or Julius Streicher held the copyright to the photos? Caution is not very apt in the sight of genocide, which, by any definition short of gas ovens, this is.

I've been watching Israel closely for over 30 years now, and their appalling behaviour doesn't surprise me a bit.

It is obviously beyond sad and unacceptable that innocent children and adults should ever be harmed or killed! But lest we forget that the firebombing of Dresden during WWII killed so many bystanders too - and this is fortunately no Dresden. War is an unrelenting and tragic state in our human existence. This as genocide though? The deliberate and systematic destruction of a people like in Darfur and Yugoslavia and during the Holocaust's Final Solution?

If someone lifts a piano into a six story window and drops it on someone, killing them, if they are reckless or not, is that genocide too? In another dangerous event, war, if a country non-deliberately kills innocents in what Egypt, the European Union President, the US, and many other countries agree is a response that is surely overwhelming, but ultimately justified in the face of the thousands of Hamas rockets, is that really genocide? Palestinian president Abbas said last week, after appealing to Hamas NOT to end the cease fire as Hamas shot hundreds of rockets at Israel, that "The one responsible for the massacres is Hamas, not the Zionist entity. Hamas needs to stop treating the blood of Palestinians lightly."

Hamas is the group of people that killed hundreds of Palestinians from the opposition last year in Gaza to maintain power - and handed out cake and candy in the streets by the thousands, celebrating innocent death in New York, Madrid, London, Mumbai... It seems their government consists of a radical dictatorship that will use any means necessary to maintain absolute power - even by exploiting her own people.

Indeed, I truly appreciate the humanity that people have in the face of tragic and unnecessary deaths in Gaza, so lets call a spade and spade and realize that Hamas openly calls for the elimination of opposition groups, on many occasions the actual genocide of the entire Jewish people, and the destruction of the State of Israel - a country that has let in thousands of refugees from Darfur in the last year, contributed immensely to the sciences - potentially saving millions of lives, and has helped our world in countless other ways.

Israel wants to give the Palestinians a state in Gaza and in 95+ percent of the West Bank (everywhere except two large population centers of a few square miles, where hundreds of thousands of Israelis live today.) In return? Reassurance that if they leave those lands as they left Gaza three years ago (evicting thousands of Jewish settlers - for the sake of stability and in realizing that Gaza should be for Gazans), they won't be thanked with endless rocket fire.

Until we drop the radical rhetoric and address real solutions for a lasting peace in Israel/Gaza/Palestine/The Middle East, I fear that in ten years we will be right where we are today.

@darscohen - Israel broke the cease fire this time. It wasnt hammas rockets. Even the idiot media outlets sucked it up to report against their corporate cause. Isreal has a standing army with technologies donated by the United States genocide group.

Tell the stupid fucking americans to stop funding Isreal. Isreal has pretty much any piece of military hardware the united states does, hammas is firing rockets older than the Russian/Afghan war.

Tell hammas to stop the rockets? Tell isreal to grow a pair of balls and tell everyone who gave them the slotted land after ww2. what was the prize for getting the united states into world war2 to create the United Nations? Since the league of nations was a one sided world dictator meeting group and failed, they needed another world government body.

Fellow Americans,

This image is one of the root causes of terrorism. Do you think this man will ever forgive Israel? Can you blame him if he were to pack some explosives and blow himself to Allah at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem? What you do if this was your child?

Only now, with the propagation of digital cameras and the internet can we see this. Like the TV did to the Vietnam War, people will see these images and hopefully become disgusted enough to do something about it.

America and her allies have caused scenes like this since before the turn of the 19th century. Native Americans, slavery, imperialistic territorial fights, America is far from innocent and the American support of Israel just deepens our responsibility for these acts. I pray that Obama will actually be able to do something to stop this. Unfortunately, I also fear that the "Jewish interests" and their political dollars will likely prevent anything of substance from occurring.

In closing, I can only say that seeing this image and knowing my country supports Israel in whole, then I believe even stronger that I am American by birth, NOT by choice!

syntheticamatrix says:

Israel is a tiny country surrounded on all sides by countries filled with people who hate them. I may be 1 off, but I think it's 56 Muslim countries and one Jewish country in the Middle East and Israel is being called the racist one because they won't let Palistinians flood into their country in greater numbers than their own, which would eventually displace them. And it is their own country, not just some 'occupation' and anyone who says it isn't is racist. It is populated by Jews cast out of all the Middle Eastern countries who faced genocide there. These countries, many of them filthy rich, fund Hezbollah and Hamas to eradicate the Jews in Israel like you would vermin. To combat all the weaponry and money funneled into their enemies hands, the US funnels money and weaponry into Israel. That's what I call a fair fight. Also, Israeli Intelligence is the best in the world for movements in terrorist organisations, i.e. the WESTERN WORLD NEEDS THEM, which means YOU NEED THEM in your comfy little world of judgement.

High Palistinian death toll helps Hamas, which is why they put the Palistinian people in the line of fire using them as human shields. What is very common is to confuse Hamas, whose base is in Syria and funding is from Iran, mostly, with Palistinian civilians. Hamas doesn't give a rat's behind about the Palistinian people. They seek to control and use them for the proximity of their country to their foe, Israel. And they're really good at it, because they've got all of you against Israel saying things like 'Hitler was right' (Amjad Shahani). Here are some examples of how they do it:
Hamas cuts off electricity and blames Israel saying they've run out of fuel when they have a month's supply
Hamas places Palistinians on top of munitions and blames Israel when they get blown up.
Hamas steals food, fuel & medical supplies and blames Israel and its 'blockade'.
Hamas binds members of Abbas's Fatah party and throws them off tall buildings for their defiance and willingness to recognise Israel's right to exist.
Hamas tells the Palistinian civilians, to whom all information they control, that the rockets they send into Israel are just 'fireworks'.
I can forgive the Palistinian civilians for not getting the true picture and making subsequent unfair judgement of Israel. All of you condemning Israel, on the other hand, have as much information to hand as you wish, and have no such excuse.

Israel left Gaza in 2005 and left in tact infrastructure, such as working farms, buildings and greenhouses, ready to employ Palistinians and enjoy statehood. Hamas destroyed it all and dug tunnels. They could have become part of the political process but wouldn't recognise Israel's right to exist and have routinely sent thousands of rockets into Israel since 2005. During the cease-fire, they took this opportunity to dig tunnels through which they could smuggle arms and terrorists. Why didn't they spend money on building hospitals and shelters for the Palistinian people they say they care so much about? Because then there'd be no dead bodies to exploit.

Hamas is a terrorist organisation which uses schools and other seemingly stable and innocuous organisations as fronts to give them legitimacy to the outside world who knows no better. Most Palistinians know they are being used but can do nothing about it and if they do they face bloody reprisal from Hamas. Calls reporting the U.N. school as a launching point came from within Gaza from people who remained anonymous to avoid such reprisals.

It's horrible, yes. Everyone who instantly piles all the blame on Israel do not corner the market on compassion. Israel has learned the hard way that cease-fires allow Hamas to go underground. They have been dropping papers all over Gaza stating that they are going after Hamas and asking the Palistinians to evacuate their neighborhoods. Do not forget how this started: During the cease-fire, Hamas attempted a raid such as the one they perpetrated in 2006 which took Israeli soldiers hostage, one of which they still hold - Gilad Shalit. Israel prevented it and Hamas took this as their cue to re-start their rocket attacks on civilians.

So many have pointed out that so many Palistinian civilians have died, but so few Israeli civilians have died. This is because the Israeli government spends money on shelters and training for neighborhoods to prevent deaths. And they're very good at it. Practice makes perfect. All Israelis have to be in the Army regardless of class or gender. No such shelters and training exist in Gaza; why build them when all the dead bodies, exploited properly, get all of you on Hamas's side? Hamas is smart and you're falling for it - hook, line and sinker.

I live in Israel, I have seen the torn bodies and wrecked remains of *Israeli* victims of Palestinian terrorist attacks. And believe me, there were plenty. Many of the commentators here only see partial information and half truths.

Wake up. It's sad when people and children die as a by-product of war. it's sadder when they are deliberately murdered - which is what the Hamas and other terrorist organizations do. Hamas has to be stopped. In the long run it will be better for everyone involved, especially the Palestinians.

gadoocrew, synthecamatrix and nushoin - your comments betray an ignorance of your country's history, and your own callousness, which, put together, are breathtaking.

Learn some real history, and forget your politicians' propaganda.

Hamas, if not created by Israel, was at least strongly supported in its early days.

"Also, all these wars were planned in some detail in advance, with the Israeli government just waiting for -- or even, on occasion, provoking -- some action from the other side that they could use as a launch pretext. All have received strong financial, rearming, and political support from the U.S., not least because they were waged in the name of counter-terrorism.

But the outcomes are important, too. At a purely military level, the two FRC (For Regime Change)wars against the PLO were the ones that Israel was able to "win" in terms of being largely able to dismantle the structures it targeted. But the longer term, political-strategic outcomes of both those wars were distinctly counter-productive for Israel since they paved the way for the emergence of much tougher minded and better organised movements".
