Khat

    Khat is popular article of taste in Yemen.
    カートは，イエメンの成人男性（最近は子供や女性も）が楽しむ嗜好品で，軽い覚醒作用を持っている。味は苦く，茶葉を生で食べているよう。若い葉を大 量に噛み，そのエキスを唾液や水，コーラなどとともに飲み干す。噛みかすは吐き出さずに片側の頬に溜め続ける。他国では麻薬の一種として厳禁されてい るが，イエメンでは「カートタイム」と呼ばれる昼休みの時間に多くの人がカートを楽しみ，酔っている。
