Brittany, rose gardens

Brittany, rose gardens by Ed_Z.
Mamiya 6, Fuji acros 100 @ 200, 1/125, f/5.6 processed in diafine 5+5

Lighting info:
single 580exII bare, camera right, about 4' angled down. 1/16 IIRC. used my G9 as a polaroid to double check the exposure :-)

(yeah I know I cut off the fingers. Rangefinder framing is not an exact science :-)

Lighting and contrast are nice. And I wasn't looking at the fingers (until you mentioned it).

Nice Ed, I like it. You are really drawn into the picture. What part of Old City was this?

Thanks all,

it was in the little dog park on the corner of 2nd and market. There are a couple of rose bushes growing along the fence on the south side, and I knew I wanted to shoot her in there - the idea was to evoke a kind of dreamy, faraway feel...

I did 2 setups, one facing east and one facing west, 12 shots (1 roll) for each. very simple and quick. there we about 5 "good" shots, this was my favorite of the bunch.

In fact, if I may ask... How the blazes did you manage to get such amazing tonality???

Chris - basically just good exposure and a bit of post. I metered my ambient at f/5.6 which I knew would be about 1/16 power on my strobe at asa200. Developed in diafine, which gives a fairly "flat" neg, which I then scanned, bumped the contrast and threw into lightroom. In LR, it was just a matter of adding a simple S-curve and a bit of vignetting to draw the eye to the center and that was about it. One of the things I really like about film over digital, is it just doesn't need as much tweaking in post to bring out those great tones. it just kind of "happens"

Another reason why I can't shoot with Brittany any more. I can't compare. Nice job. I really like the use of the foreground flowers to frame her.
