They've just discovered that only the doubled chin is real -- and that everything in the book of blue pages was composed to match stripes on shirts. (Reeve thinks he needs to memorize some of the words anyway -- and is half smiling at the thought he may now have committed a couplet rhyming "discreet" with "secrete" to memory.
