when i'm not at work at least i can try new things. if i shot this on a wedding job it would never sell to the client. but the strange thing is these can sell after to people who were never there at the time and they fetch much higher prices than the photos people actually pay you to do. up to 200 times higher per photo in fact than digicam wedding group shots. photography is a strange world. what easily sells you can only sell cheap what is harder to sell you can sell at a decent price.the opposite of obvious logic.

the square format is great here. I love the way you use the lines here, and the upside down chair creates a weird atmosphere. I like this kind of experimental photography and I have to say that I agree with your ideas about selling pictures. it's all very logical.

thanks people who pay top dollar get top dollar
this week i had a potential client who came to my house to examine my wedding photos. i showed her reportages that had cost 6 times more than she wanted to pay and a collection of 6 canon eos 5 or 1 or 5d all with canon L lenses on and 2 hasselblads and 2 mamiyas and collection of aluminium mounted pictures and the person still went away unable to decide if i, my pictures or my equipment was good enough for her.
when i see these people treating me like this, and treating my work like a generic product they may deign to have, i just think i should be selling my pictures for higher prices. whatever i charge it is not enough. only when it costs massive sums will these people be able to "understand".

thankyou people. paradoxical indeed. i have just won first prize in the kodak / La Fotografia magazine photography competition with this picture.
another paradox kodak give me the prize for a picture which is taken with a film they no longer produce and is 3 years out of date.
still its two fingers up to everyone from me. all these stupid wedding couples who don't hire me are on eveil databases on my computer and will receive regular suitably snooty emails informing them of all competition wins.

Congratulations! Kodak film in your hands is like a fine wine. It needs to be laid down (preferably on a balcony in the direct sun) for several years to mature sufficiently for you.
