Seiri and web design

Every page is marked with the date, time, location.
In the rightmost column, put the notes on things that distract you so that you can get on with writing.
SEIRI and web design. Thinking about ways to improve my weblog by removing clutter. Inspired in part by Discardia.
The main text of the page, around which all comments are centered.
Leave the immediate right of the facing page for comments, questions, alternative lines of thought.
Sketches. Note here that the quadrille helps me get straight lines and proportion in both directions.
Some blank polar paper I had so that the scan would turn out clean on the scanner.

Some notes on continuous improvement and 5s in web design, starting with seiri.

Scanned from the moleskine with polar background.

Greetings Edward -

Great image, I LOVE the polar paper! I've never seen it before, would I find it with drafting supplies, or is it some other specialty?

I would like to invite you to add this to the image pool for a newly formed group called Moleskine: One Page at a Time, it would be a welcome addition.

Thanks - Ninth Wave

great layout and flow of notations. I'm interested in that polar paper as well. Where can one get their hands on some?

The polar paper used to be standard equipment in engineering supply stores; I bought out some of the last new old stock when the stores near the U of Michigan campus were closing out. Haven't found a replacement source, though there's plenty of ways to print your own polar paper from online templates.

Hi Ed,
Like the way you use moleskin. Thought you might be interested to know that there are other members who are equally in love with moleskin. If you do a search for "Time-management software -- offline version" you might enjoy the result. :- )

Cheers, Lukas

Ed, can you tell us a little about "Seiri" or point us to a link with more information about it?

Thanks,

seiri is part of the the Kaizen system from Japan of management; a passing introduction to it from Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5S_(methodology)

the word itself is

整理

there are lots of english texts on the net about seiri, none of which I fully trust to get the real sense; here is one:

Seiri is about identifying the necessary (what is really needed to do the job?) and the unnecessary things. The necessary ones must be put in order, while the unnecessary ones must be disposed immediately.
