Water Tanks![]() ![]() Rosenwach Tanks are all Redwood.
They're a signature part of the city skyline, and even in the 21st century, wood water tanks still have a unique and necessary job here, providing water to millions of homes. “The tank is an icon of the city. You can almost consider it to be a flag,” says Rosenwach Tank President Andy Rosenwach. “It has so much local color in a city of glass and stone.” And it's locally made. The Rosenwach Tank Company's factory is in Williamsburg. The lumber, which comes in from Western Canada, first passes through a machine which sands the edges so they can stand side by side, fitting together without glue to make the tank's walls. metal rods are then wrapped around the tank and bolted in place. There's nothing in between the seams to hold the tank together, just the rods. And when it's filled with water, the wood swells and stays tight. This particular shot reminds me of that scene in "The Goonies" when they're lining up the rocks (Cannon Beach Haystack Rock) with the restaurant looking for the treasure. www.indyprops.com/pp-doubloon.htm CommentsWould you like to comment?Sign up for a free account, or sign in (if you're already a member). |
