"Moonbow" at Lower Yosemite Falls, Yosemite National Park

A Moonbow at Yosemite Falls is a unique event that occurs for only a few days each year. The environmental conditions must be perfect; that is, a full moon at the right angle, a clear night, and ample waterfall mist. This image was made just after midnight, during a chilly four hour photo session at the foot of Lower Yosemite Fall.

Absolutely. The moon was full the night of the 20th, and just before midnight, the clouds that had been blocking it dissipated and the moon crested the wall of granite behind the falls viewing area. I also took this one a while later.

Notice how the rainbow has shifted as the moon continued to rise.
