A House in Mid-City

A House in Mid-City by Editor B.
Wow. Just wow. I'm not sure this picture fully captures the beatdown, ramshackle, dilapidated look of this poor old house. It literally stopped me in my tracks when I rode past on my bike. This is in my neighborhood, but I'd never seen it before.

I didn't talk to any of the immediate neighbors, but I've got a suspicion that they'd say it looked pretty much the same before Katrina.

What's up with the big star in front?

Jeez, that looks like it's been falling apart for years. Very sad. Here's another Mid-City mess of a house.

The house is part of a 5-structure complex on that corner. The vacant lot next door used to be a sign shop (thus the large star), and apparently other commercial uses previously (metalwork shop, etc.). Supposedly the whole complex is on its way out. The owner died before the storm and his sister recently sold it to someone who plans on building a raised double rental property.
