Salicornia and Cuscuta: Parasitism in the Salt Marsh

Salicornia and Cuscuta: Parasitism in the Salt Marsh by edgeplot.
Salt-marsh dodder (Cuscuta salina) growing on pickleweed (Salicornia virginica) in Deception Pass State Park near Anacortes, Washington. The dodder has twining orange stems and creamy white flowers. It is parasitic and unable to photosynthesize, and lives off nutrients taken from its green pickleweed host.
